  • 75 of 98 Neighborhood Council Districts Represented

  • 1375+ Starter Family EP Kits Presented
  • 121 CERT Appreciation Gifts Given
  • EXCELLENT Speakers on Emergency/Disaster Preparedness Heard
  • Numerous Prizes (Including a Big Screen TV) Drawing Prizes Awarded
  • 9 Technician, 2 General and 2 Extra Rating Ham Radio Exams for Licenses Passed
  • Thousands of Meals Served
  • Dozens and Dozens of Volunteers put in Hours and Hours of Hard Work!  And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
To those of you who were unable to get one of the great EP Kits, we do apologize, but alas, the Foundation's budget only went so far.  Personal contributions from the Southern California Foundation Board members amounted to thousands of dollars, as we tried our best to make the Fair a great one.  We think we succeeded!
Planning for next year's Fair begins in January, and the date for the 2018 Fair has been set for the first Saturday in October, the 6th.  We learned so much from this year's Fair in our new location and working with the folks at Northridge Fashion Center, and we plan to be back next year at the same location with an even bigger(?) and better(!) Fair!  Want to be part of it?  We're starting our lists of names, so send us an email and let us know!
This Saturday, October 14th, is our monthly Emergency Preparedness Meeting, 9:00 to 11:00 AM, at the Flyaway Bus Terminal in the Community Meeting Room on the 2nd Floor, 7610 Woodley Avenue (NE Corner of Saticoy and Woodley), in Van Nuys 91406.  GO INSIDE, take the elevator at the north end of the building, or climb the steps outside.  Plenty of FREE PARKING in the short-term lot out front in the spaces closest to Woodley Avenue.
Our speaker this month will be Bryan Parent.  Bryan hails from Boston and is a Board Member and Public Safety Chair of the Hollywood Studio District NC.  He served as a Tactical Intelligence Officer in the US Army and Massachusetts Army National Guard and did his Master's Thesis at Penn State in Homeland Security and Geospatial Intelligence, involving EP in the City of Los Angeles and its Neighborhood Councils.  He is currently investigating Violent Extremism in and around Los Angeles.  On Saturday, he will be speaking to us about violent extremism and the radicalization cycle and how to stop or react to it.  You DON'T want to miss this one, and we have lots on our agenda this month, so arrive early and we can start right at 9:00 AM!
And speaking of agendas, we'll also be appointing a Co-Chair for our Committee, and selecting members who would like to serve "officially" on the LBNC EP Committee!  Don't forget to bring pet items for the animals in our local shelters (see agenda for suggested items), and we'll make sure they get to Operation Blankets of Love who deliver the items to shelters, as well as helps homeless folks with their pets, and even transports "death row" dogs to new homes!  Also, don't forget, if you bring in 15 items of non perishable foods to SOS Survival Products, 15706 Strathern, #11, Van Nuys 91406, you can get a 15% discount on your purchase for the next few weeks!  (Check out their website!)  The foods will go to MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity), right here in the Valley, who does such a great job distributing the foods through its Food Pantry.
WHEW!!!  Lots going on!  We continue to send good thoughts to, donations for, and prayers for all those suffering from the effects of the earthquake in Mexico, hurricanes in Texas, Florida, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, the shooting in Vegas and the fires all over our state and others.  May we all learn from watching these awful events that there but for the grace of higher powers go we, and that we MUST prepare to care for our own families and share what we can with friends and neighbors.
Can't wait to see everyone on Saturday!  Questions?
