On Saturday October 19, 2013, starting at 10am, we are having “Mural Day”!
The students were the winners in the Design Contest we held for the naming of “Lake Balboa” celebration with our on going efforts to beautify and call attention to the Lake Balboa Community.
Students from Magnolia Science Academy 2, working with our LBNC councils “Community Improvement Projects Committee” and City Councilwoman Nury Martinez, will begin painting the first stage of the mural on the back fences facing Haskell from Haynes to Victory. This will be the first section of the three that we are doing (66′ length each section). Eventually having the mural on the whole wall. Students are being mentored by one of the most well-known mural artists in the Valley and City of LA, Levi Ponce ( http://www.leviponce.com/)
Once this mural is finished it will have an Anti graffiti coating applied to it to keep its beautiful appearance for many years. Allen and Roxan have been working tirelessly to get this finally accomplished. We hope that many of you can join us on this special weekend. With help from Brian he will be filming this whole process as it is going to be a documentary. Oct 19 @ 10 am is our start set up time. We will be having photo ops with City Councilwoman Nury Martinez and State Assemblyman Adrin Nazarian. We are hoping for gourmet food trucks to be there as well for the day serving late breakfast and lunch, beverages etc. This should be a fun-filled day. We are hoping to get this done in one day but it may spill over on the Sunday Oct 20 for completion.
